In the Wings short films TH is shown making a call from the police station that NJ fails to answer. Skimming through the HYYH Notes I can’t really make sense why that is though. The two of them start off as very close friends but seem to have drifted apart in the time between HYYH and the HLR. Most fan theories I’ve seen seem to approach the NJ character through his presence in TH’s story. The gas station has been repeatedly shown throughout the years and it was even mentioned by SJ in the HYYH Notes so we know it holds significance. After its first introduction in the I Need U MV whenever we see the gas station, we see both of the men there. I knew it had been referenced back to both in the Wings and Love Yourself eras so maybe that would be the NJ consistent, the thing that is his and his alone. But, looking through the footage I realised that it wasn’t as much a NJ thing than a NamJin thing. So I decided to gather some of the main threads I could I isolate from his overall storyline throughout the BU videos and maybe that will allow me to at least put it out of my mind. But with NJ I don’t even know where to start. I can’t seem to figure out the narrative red line or even some baseline symbolism that could give us some insight to what his personal story, unrelated to the others, is. Can Seokjin really manipulate time or events? Did TH kill his dad? What is JM’s illness? Who was driving the car that hit Jungkook? etc. When I think about the other characters, while there is a lot we still don’t know, at least I know what kinds of questions I am supposed to be asking: I.e. But after HYYH, it just all kind of scattered.

Through the series we got to see his home, his workplace and the kind of mischief he and Taehyung would get into separate from the rest. Even though NJ wasn’t necessarily in the center of the HYYH story, he was still definitely one of the more fully fledged characters among the 7. Unlike JM who was pretty insignificant in the HYYH series but has since been developed into a proper character, Namjoon actually started out strong but as time goes by, his role becomes more and more obscure. The situation is somewhat similar to why I originally started digging into Jimin’s role in the narrative but then again, not really. Perhaps FAKE LOVE will provide all the answers and this will have been for nothing.

With the comeback only a few days away, this probably isn’t the most opportune moment to get into this but I felt like if I don’t get this out now I never will. Serious question, cause I can’t seem to figure it out and it’s been bugging me for a while now.
